Historical\Naturalistic tour
The Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie was built in the middle of a wetland and marshy area not far from the city. It was commissioned as an ex-voto for the cessation of a serious epidemic of plague. The many pilgrims were welcome by a stuffed hanging crocodile and many bizzarre statues that still tell us ancient stories from the past. Inside the curch there are a very crocodile in chains up the ceiling and votive statues on the sides of the nave. There is also the tomb of Baldassarre Castiglione built by Giulio Romano.
